1. Creating a Generation Z Engaged Classroom

THE PROGRAMME/OBJECTIVES

This workshop intends to develop secondary school teachers in Trinidad and Tobago. This session explores exciting ways to maximise their strengths and motivate them in your classroom such as game-based and project-based learning. Participants will explore the learning characteristics and preferences for classroom engagement of Generation Z students and how these are different than those of previous generations. They will actively participate in the session and leave with ready to use resources for their classroom.

The focus will be on:

  • Characteristics of Generation Z
  • Strategies to maximise the strengths and motivate of Generation Z
  • Hands-on and ready-to-use strategies for the classroom

2. Motivating the 21st Century Language Learner in Trinidad and Tobago

THE PROGRAMME/OBJECTIVES

This workshop intends to develop Language teachers in Trinidad and Tobago. Teachers will develop instructional skills in order to motivate students to voluntarily pursue Languages. Teachers will learn a variety of strategies, including assessment and game-based learning to ensure that teaching remains student-centered and applicable to the 21st Century Learner. All participants will also be engaged in hands-on activities which will allow them to practice the theories learnt.

The focus will be on:

  • Engaging students through game-based learning in the modern language classroom
  • Motivation through assessment in the modern language classroom
  • Motivating students by using online and offline tools in the classroom

This workshop targets Language (French, Spanish, English etc.) teachers from secondary schools.

3. The Flipped Classroom

THE PROGRAMME/OBJECTIVES

You     can    flip     your     classroom    without     flipping     out!

This workshop will provide a practical learning experience for educators wishing to develop a plan to incorporate flipped teaching and learning techniques into their classes and courses.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Get hands-on and flip some of your own content
  • Try out some free screen-casting tools, and learn techniques for creating high quality, engaging screen-casts
  • Understand the considerations of which you need to be aware when you flip the classroom, including how to use class time, and techniques to help ensure that students consume the flipped materials
  • Understand how the flipped classroom allows for differentiation in the classroom.

All of this in a fun and engaging environment with support after the programme.

4. Classroom Management

THE PROGRAMME/OBJECTIVES

This workshop intends to equip you with the tools necessary to ensure the smooth running of your classroom so learning can take place. Using the Charlotte Danielson framework, teachers will be able to measure the effectiveness of the strategies that they currently use as well as their growth in

the classroom as they begin to implement some of the very practical ways to maintain classroom discipline. Educators who have tried and proven the proposed strategies present this workshop. The focus will be on:

  • Differentiating between discipline and management
  • Introducing Charlotte Danielson’s framework
  • Management tools that can be implemented immediately

5. Transforming Teacher Mindset

THE PROGRAMME/OBJECTIVES

This workshop reawakens the reflective practitioner. It reminds us educators of common, human errors that occur in the classroom. This presentation aims to refresh teachers as it allows us to recognize that we can be part of the change we wish to see. Educators will be exposed to strategies that can help build and improve classroom relationships and student and teacher efficacy.

The presentation will provide tips for promoting changed mindsets that will help to boost student academic performance while also catering to their development as whole, integrated individuals. It only takes a dash of interest, a sprinkle of love, and a cup of commitment to motivate scholars to rise to their highest potential.

6. No WiFi, No problem

Lack of WiFi access is a recurring issue faced by teachers in Trinidad and Tobago.

While a reliable WiFi connection can be a nice element to have in the classroom, it certainly is not a deal breaker when it comes to your effectiveness as a teacher.

This full day (6 hour) workshop will give teachers the tools needed to reach 21st Century Learners in environments that may have limited to no Internet access.

7. New Teacher Orientation Programme

This programme intends to assist new teachers to successfully navigate their first year of teaching and therefore reduce attrition rates at the school as well as reduce anxiety in teachers. It intends to acculturise the teacher to the Ministry of Education’s standards and encourage voluntary professional development. The programme will allow for reflective practice so that teachers can evaluate their own growth and tailor instruction for their students.

The programme includes a 3-4 day Orientation conference, 10 one-day monthly workshops and an optional mentorship-training programme.

This session is aimed at defining and distinguishing two important terms; social competence and social competencies. The purpose of this presentation is to share and explore how developing competencies in the classroom can help improve relationships, while positively impacting teaching and learning. The presenter hopes to bring awareness to the right attitudes and skills that need to be fostered to create conducive classrooms where students of every creed, race and varying learning abilities can blossom into respectful and responsible adults and citizens.

3. Back to Basics : PowerPoint Level 1

Microsoft PowerPoint can be an effective tool when it is used to its fullest capacity. This session is for persons who need a basic introduction to PowerPoint and presentation skills for the classroom.

4. Back to Basics: PowerPoint Level 2

Taking PowerPoint to the next level. Do you have basic PowerPoint skills?  Have you ever seen a PowerPoint presentation that looks like a game design and wanted to create your own? Do you want to record your PowerPoint as a lesson plus lots more? Then this is the session for you!

5. Introduction to E-testing

“Either you’re an agent of change, or you’re destined to become a victim of change.” Beverley Kinghorn.  With the introduction of online testing, it is crucial that teachers and students are prepared for this change. Through this dynamic and interactive session, teachers will be introduced to strategies, which they can immediately apply in their classrooms for preparation towards online testing.
